Featured One Kings Lane Project: Lucy Liu’s Playroom

Paintzen is thrilled to present this One Kings Lane project we worked on.

How do you imagine your favorite actor’s home looks like? Is there a picturesque kitchen? Artwork hanging on the walls and luxurious furniture? Maybe.

But when children are involved, it might take on a different look. Kids will be kids – which means there may be messy bedrooms and playrooms with toys everywhere. Don’t forget about the constant marks on the walls.

Playroom or Storage

Lucy Liu recently partnered with One Kings Lane interior design to redesign her son’s playroom in their Manhattan apartment. The design of the space was neglected because it was just a storage room for toys.

Functional Space

Lucy was ready to change that. The goal was a room that works for both Rockwell, her son, and function as a living room for guests. To bring that transformation to life, this One Kings Lane project with the help of Paintzen needed the color and texture on the walls to change.

A Neutral Palette

When selecting the color palette, Lucy and One Kings Lane designer Nicole Fisher decided on a neutral, contemporary style. They chose to avoid primary colors, which are overused in children’s rooms and playrooms.

Instead, they chose to have Paintzen paint the walls in a cozy gray with warm beige undertones. (Try PPG ‘Slate Pebble’ for a similar look!) It created a perfect backdrop for the decor selected for the room, which included a tepee for Rockwell, some Tribal-inspired artwork, Moroccan woven baskets, and some framed artwork.

Some Texture

To add texture, Paintzen also installed wallpaper on two of the walls. The wallpaper pattern involved muted blues and grays to add subtle color and a slight contrast to the rest of the walls.

Organized Space
